Kabarole District Chief Administrative Officer- CAO, Stephen Rubaihayo, is urging development partners to invest in sexual reproductive health, education, and production as essential strategies to combat Gender-Based Violence and HIV/AIDS.
This urgent appeal was made during an inception meeting organized by ACORD with various stakeholders at the district’s Kitumba area. The HIV/AIDS prevalence in Kabarole District is concerning, with infection rates at 11.8%, and even higher in Fort Portal City at 14.1%.
The impact of this pandemic is profound, particularly on families, women, and children, contributing to poverty, stigma, and social exclusion. Rubaihayo emphasized the need for targeted investments in sexual reproductive health, education, and production to address these challenges.
He called on implementing partners to extend their activities throughout the district, particularly in communities most affected by Gender-Based Violence and HIV/AIDS. His message underscored the necessity of collaborative efforts to tackle these urgent issues.
Teddy Chimulwa, National Project Officer at UNESCO-Uganda, also highlighted the importance of parental involvement in combating teenage pregnancy and gender-based violence. She noted that when parents actively engage in their children’s lives, teenage girls are more likely to complete their education and make informed choices about their futures
