There is need for Village Health Teams to intensify sensitization of people towards disease prevention and early diagnosis to control the increasing disease burden in communities.
Richard Rwabuhinga, the District Chairperson Kabarole says the rate at which non-communicable diseases are affecting and killing the people is alarming and this would be controlled if people are encouraged to go for regular medical check-up.
Rwabuhinga has thus tasked the VHTs to intensify the fight against malnutrition because statistics show that the high level of stunted growth is high in this region. He says once parents focus on preparing a well balanced diet to the children, embark on traditional foods, stop consuming food contaminated with cooking oils, they will be preparing a resourceful human capital in future.
While speaking as Chief Guest during the launch of Rutete VHTs association, Rwabuhinga commended the VHTs for the voluntary work, being part of the NRM national health achievement in eliminating the six killer diseases such as polio, measles, and whooping cough among others.
He calls on them to attract the people who dropped out of Antiretroviral (ARV) back on the system saying their withdrawal is endangering their lives and the society because HIV virus gets more active and infectious at that stage.
