The Rwenzori West police is currently investigating a horrific incident in Rwenchwera village, Kinyonza ward, Nkoma Katalyeba town council, Kamwenge district where last night four family members fell victim to a brutal attack involving hacking.
The spokesperson for Rwenzori West police, Twesige Vincent, identified the victims as Turyahebwa Gladys 42 and her children Anita Nuwamanya 18 Atusasire Onesta 9 and Susan Ainemukama. The alleged perpetrator, Asiimwe Sam 33, was subsequently lynched by a furious mob.
According to Twesige, the tragic incident unfolded when Asiimwe forcefully entered the home of the late Gladys, attacking and hacking the family members. The motive behind the brutal act was Asiimwe’s accusation that Gladys had bewitched him.
Following the murder of the three victims, Asiimwe returned to his own home and upon discovering this, enraged members of the community retaliated by lynching him.
Ainemani Susan 16 who had sustained severe injuries during the violent episode was rushed to Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital for medical treatment, but unfortunately died on her way to the hospital.
SP Vincent Twesige, strongly condemned the act of mob justice and urged the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. He encouraged the individuals to report any misunderstandings or disputes to the police or other relevant authorities.
Kamwenge residents are calling upon the government to take regulatory measures against self-proclaimed prophets, whom they believe are at the root of societal issues. This plea comes in the aftermath of the tragic incident involving Asiimwe, who, influenced by such a figure, accused Gladys of bewitching him before committing a heinous crime.
