Residents of Kamwenge have been encouraged to invest in high-value productive cash crops, such as coffee, to succeed in economic agriculture and improve their income for family sustainability.
The call was yesterday made by Bishop Robert Muhiirwa Akiiki of Fort Portal Catholic Diocese on Friday during his visit to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Mr. Lazaro Tiragana and Miss Tereza Tiragana of Nkongoro, Kamwenge District, who marked 63 years of holy matrimony.
The Bishop emphasized that, in addition to nurturing strong families, people need stable sources of income, suggesting that they focus on commercial agriculture and invest in vocational education for children to enhance their employability.
Furthermore, he encouraged the faithful to embrace spiritual renewal during this Jubilee year of hope, as declared by the Catholic Church. He urged them to participate in pilgrimages, engage in charitable activities, and actively practice the sacraments of Penance and Eucharist, while praying for the intentions of the Pope.
At the same function, Hon. Cuthbert Mirembe, the Kamwenge Member of Parliament, praised the Catholic Church for facilitating the government’s development goals, highlighting Bishop Muhiirwa’s donation of land for the establishment of Kabambiro Seed Secondary School as a notable example of collaboration. He also commended the unity between the government and local Catholic Church leaders, as well as the Tiragana couple for setting a powerful example of a strong family for future generations.
Hon. Sylvia Bahereira, the Kamwenge Woman MP, also expressed her admiration for the Tiraganas, celebrating their 63 years of marriage as an inspiration to family growth in the area.
In recognition of their enduring commitment, the Tiraganas were presented with a certificate of recognition from Rome by the Bishop.
