The Town clerk Kamwenge Town Council and technical staff are facing scrutiny for allowing the construction of an illegal structure along Mbarara road, contrary to the council’s 2017 resolution that mandated approved buildings only along Highway Street.
During a stakeholders meeting organized by the area Member of Parliament, Eng Cuthbert Abigaba Mirembe, at Kamwenge railway station grounds, various stakeholders accused the town clerk Mr.Ronald Mugume and his team of approving the construction of an illegal structure, specifically the lockups opposite VOK radio.
Evas Maniragaba, the secretary for works in Kamwenge town council, Birungi Joseph Bilex, the town council district councilor, and other stakeholders alleged that the owner of the structure bribed law enforcement officers to approve the construction without proper plans.
Ninshaba Winshine Matovu, the LCIII Chairperson of Kamwenge town council, firmly stated that such buildings would not be permitted in the town.
In response, the town clerk, Mugume Ronald, revealed that he is awaiting a demolition order to rectify the issue.
Eng Cuthbert Abigaba Mirembe, the area Member of Parliament for Kibale, who organized the meeting, clarified its purpose was to explore ways of developing and beautifying the town.
Leaders urged to formulate laws & [Policies that govern the town
Meanwhile, Eng Cuthbert Abigaba Mirembe has urged businessmen and landlords in Kamwenge town council to collaborate with leaders in formulating policies that encourage town development.
In response to unanswered questions, Cuthbert convened the meeting with town council stakeholders to address queries and advance the town’s development, where he encouraged participants to establish regulations and policies compelling landlords and businessmen to contribute to the town’s development and beautification.
Sadick Byaruhanga, the Kamwenge district chairperson for trade and industry, criticized town council leaders for not implementing previous resolutions and called on them to engage wealthy individuals in investing in Kamwenge town.
