Amanya Gibson the Kibale County Parliamentary aspiring candidate on National Unity Platform ticket has been nullified from the race. Amanya has been nullified by the independent electoral commission for non observance of the law during his nomination.
On 16th October this year, Amanya was nominated by George William Magezi the Kamwenge district registrar to contest as a Member of Parliament for Kibale County.
However his fate ran out on 26th October 2020 when his proposer Kakuru Charles and Ainomugisha William one of his ten people seconding his nomination petitioned Justice Simon Byabakama the chairperson Electoral Commission saying they were duped while appending their signatures on the nomination papers of Amanya.
In their petition, the two claimed they were asked to sign forms for an NRM candidate only to understand after the nomination exercise that they had signed for National Unity Platform contender.
In his letter dated 4th November 2020, Justice Byabakama says that Amanya erred with Section 11 (1)(a) of the parliamentary elections act. As a result, George William Magezi the Kamwenge district registrar has nullified the nomination of Amanya Gibson.
This story of Amanya Gibson is too short, help us and share the Acts that talks about Mps nominations, what is Amanya response, how many people are in the race, what do they say about nullification and who is likely to benefit from this process of nullifying Amanya among others such that the readers who don’t know this issue can understand.
