The Kibale Forest School Program yesterday evening awarded 1.5M to the Fort Portal secondary school 2024 best science student in Kabarole and Fort portal Kamaukama Mary at Fort Portal SS premises.
According to Tumusiime Patrick the project director, every year, the Kibale forest schools program under Goodhart Prize Award program, wards best Olevel performing science student in 32 schools from Fort portal and Kabarole with an aim of encouraging girls to work and achieve excellence in science subjects and mathematics
He explained that the prizes or the awards are awarded to students from three categories which include ,the best performing girls in their affiliated schools, who have achieved distinctions in science subjects, Olevel students who achieved at least a distinction B in mathematics, physics, Biology, Chemistry, Agriculture, and English and Alevel ,students who have scored minimum of two Bs in three examinations of the following subjects Math, Agric ,Chemistry ,Biology and physics and all winners are chosen based on public government –administered and marked exams UNEB and PLE scores.
According to Tumusiime , Mary scored an ‘A’ in English ,’B’ in CRE,B in geography ,’C’ in History’s in Math, ‘A’ in physics, ’B’ in Chemistry, ’A’ in biology and A in Entrepreneurship .
Emily Otali, who also serves as Country Director for Kibale Forest schools program has commended Fort Portal School for the great work they are doing to teach the children of the nation but however expressed concern over poor performance in science subjects among girls calling for more efforts from the girls in schools
