Tooro King, Dr Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, concluded his Royal tour in Mwenge North County over the weekend, with a call on his subjects especially parents to jealously guard their children during the holidays.
Addressing the people in Kyarusozi on Saturday evening, King OYO who was flanked by county chiefs and Tooro Cabinet ministers, urged the people to grow more food and cash crops to improve their household income and nutrition.
The King, made the remarks after visiting Njojo Agro based industry that is growing the new HASS avocado and processing other crops including corn or maize into finished products of oils and laundry soap among others.
During his tour of Kyarusozi, King OYO also visited another model farmer Onesimas Matsiko who is also general manager Mabaale Growers Tea factory also in Mwenge North and witnessed multi-crop farming of coffee, tea and tomatoes with sprinkler irrigation system that is mainly used during dry seasons.
On their part, farmers petitioned King Oyo to use his abilities to lobby for them fertilizers to boost their tea gardens which are currently not doing well.
Speaking to the King, Onesmus Matsiko, the manager Mabale Tea growers noted that much as Tooro contributes at least 40% of the country’s total tea export, the fields can do better than that should they be well catered for with fertilizers.
The world’s youngest monarch, further used the chance to warn people against the high AIDS prevalence rate in Tooro region which does not portray a good picture, but advised the people to desist from irresponsible and reckless life styles.
The Royal tour which saw the king visit Butunduzi and Kyarusozi is one of the activities that led to climax of his 28th coronation anniversary that is held annually on 12th of September.
King Oyo succeeded his Father Matthew Olimi Kaboyo in 1995 at a tender age of 3 years becoming the world’s youngest monarch. Other activities to mark empango include a free health camp at Mucwa in which people
will be screened of different health conditions including Hypertension
or high blood pressure, HIV, among others.
