KITAGWENDA: Heavy Rains Destroy Mpanga Bridge, Heavy Trucks Directed to Try Other Routes

Editorial -KITAGWENDA

Longino Bahebwa Byagagiire, the Resident district commissioner [RDC] for Kitagwenda, has warned road users especially heavy truck drivers to stop crossing over Mpanga Bridge which is in a sorry state.

About the Bridge

The  bridge,  connects Rwenjaza and Nyabbani Sub-counties in Kitagwenda district and was recently destroyed by heavy rains.

Following the loose of its standards, RDC Bahebwa wants heavy truck drivers to avoid it and use other routes for purposes of being on a safer side, but also to avoid accidents.

Longino, further asked monthly market vendors who travel on big vehicles also to stand warned on usage of the road up to when it is fully worked on.

Regarding the construction of the Mpanga Bridge in Kitagwenda, The RDC confirmed that the concerned persons including the UNRA station manager are aware of the problem and will be working on it as soon as possible.

Much as the engagements are in place, the process to re consruct the bridge is a bit slow concerning the urgency of the problem.

Residents Worried
Meanwhile, last year in November, residents in Nyabani, Kitagwenda district raised concern about worsening conditions of the same Bridge.
Boda boda risers of the area said the bridge is often covered by floods whenever it rains, making it hard for them to get passengers to Kamwenge who fear water levels.
Other Leaders
A one Adrew Baguma, the distirct Engineer, says the bridge is under jurisdiction of UNRA and that the road has developed enough cracks having been built in 1950s.
