Ahead of their parish feast day, it was all Joy as all Christians across St. Jude Holy Cross Parish in Kyarusozi Kyenjojo district, Fort Portal Diocese, gathered today to celebrate the parish’s 30th anniversary with a Eucharistic service led by Fr. Richard Potthast, the first parish priest.
The celebrations marked the climax of a four-day crusade that began on October 23, themed “Remain in Me, and I in You,” derived from John 15:4.
In his homily, Fr. James Burasa commended the contributions of his predecessors to the parish’s spiritual and economic growth. He encouraged the congregation to remain faithful to God and trust in His timing, especially during difficult times, drawing inspiration from Bartimaeus, who cried out to Jesus for mercy.
Fr. Burasa emphasized the importance of recognizing personal weaknesses that may hinder a relationship with God, much like Bartimaeus acknowledged his own sinful nature. He urged parishioners to be ready to embrace God’s abundant blessings when the time comes.
He also highlighted key takeaways from the Gospel, including transformation through faith, humility, gratitude, and the courage to speak up and clarify one’s purpose.
The Chairperson of the Council of Laity, Kyarusozi, acknowledged the steady progress over the past three decades, noting the active involvement of various church movements, such as the Catholic Men’s Association, Catholic Women’s Association, Legion of Mary, Charismatic Renewal, Holy Childhood, and the St. Jude Thaddeus Movement, which have contributed to both spiritual and economic growth.
However, he also expressed concern about the economic challenges faced by parishioners, many of whom are tea farmers.
As a token of appreciation, Fr Richard Potthast supported the Parish with 500,000 Shs.
Established in 1994, Kyarusozi CSC Parish has been guided by only three parish priests, including Rev. Fr. Richard Potthast CSC, Fr. Francis Mukasa CSC, and Fr. James Burasa CSC. The parish was recognized as a model parish in the Diocese of Fort Portal by Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert Muhiirwa Akiiki.
