Rev. Fr. James Burasa CSC, the Parish Priest of Kyarusozi, has expressed concern over the use of Catholic Church colors by Bisaka faith believers, who have a significant presence in Kyarusozi.
The Vatican flag colors
During an event presided over by Bishop Robert K. Muhiirwa at Kyarusozi Parish, Fr. Burasa highlighted that the Catholic Church, whose origins are in the Vatican, uses yellow and white as its official colors, as depicted on the Vatican flag. However, these same colors are being adopted by Bisaka faith believers for their buildings and attire, leading to a significant conflict and encroachment.
Fr Burasa on Color Encroachment
He further explained that they frequently receive complaints from visitors who become confused when they visit the parish. This confusion be explained, arises because the Catholic Women Association (CWA) members often wear yellow and white attire, which is similar to the attire of the Bisaka believers.
It’s from this background that Fr. Burasa urged the Catholic Church to address this issue seriously and called on Bishop Muhiirwa to take action against this encroachment.
Catholic Church to file a law suit against the Bisaka believers
In response, Bishop Muhiirwa committed to involving the Catholic Church lawyer in Hoima Diocese and filing a court case to protect the Church’s colors.
He noted that it is such a serious offense for another faith to encroach on the colors that are well known world wide to officially be on the Catholic flag.
Kyarusozi, located in the Kyenjojo district, continues to have a substantial population of Bisaka faith believers alongside other faiths.
