Police in Kyenjojo District are investigating a gruesome incident in which a man and his elderly mother were hacked to death in Bulenge Zone, Kakuba Ward, Katooke Town Council, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Tumusiime Molly Teo, a 71-year-old peasant farmer, and her son Dragon Bruce, 50. Both were residents of the same village.
According to police, the key suspect is Bainomugisha Allan, believed to be Bruce’s son and Tumusiime’s grandson.
Findings
Preliminary findings indicate that on the night of September 29, 2025, the suspect allegedly entered the house and hid in the ceiling while his father and grandmother were still at the trading centre. A granddaughter, only identified as Praise, who was home at the time, reportedly saw the suspect but did not alert the others.
At around 10:30 p.m., Bruce returned home and was later heard praying. Shortly afterward, Praise heard him making an alarm before falling silent. Tumusiime, on hearing the noise, attempted to check on him, but she was allegedly attacked by Bainomugisha, who hacked her multiple times.
Another grandchild, Muhumuza, aged 12, ran to alert his uncle Ruhamire Joel, a neighbour, who rushed to the scene. On arrival, Ruhamire found the suspect still nearby, but Bainomugisha reportedly threatened him before fleeing.
Police were later notified, visited the crime scene, and documented the incident. Postmortems were conducted, and exhibits, including blood samples, were collected.
Twesige Vincent the regional police spokesperson Rwenzori west confirmed the incident that investigations are ongoing, and efforts to arrest the suspect are underway.
Both victims’ bodies were recovered from inside the house, Tumusiime’s near the doorway and Bruce’s in the bedroom. They bore multiple deep cuts consistent with a sharp weapon.
