More than 50 households in the Ntoroko district have been forced to camp in the middle of the road connecting the Bweramule sub-county to the Rwebisengo sub-county in the Ntoroko district after the Semliki river burst its banks causing floods that flooded two sub-counties in the district.
The relentless rains, which began earlier this month, have destroyed roads, homes, and farmlands, causing widespread disruption and forcing many to seek refuge in the open.
The areas affected include Butungama sub-county and Bweramule sub-county, a total of 31 villages were also affected.
Beatrice Mbabazi, one of the locals, says the floods forced several residents whose houses were submerged by water to seek shelter on the road, which is the only area that water did not cover.
Byaruhanga Anasitori says apart from losing their houses, they also lost their animals like cows, goats, and the rest while the rest of the things in the house like bedding, clothes, and plates were also taken by water.
The flooding did not spare the road that connects Bweramule Sub County to Rwebisengo Sub County too.
By the time our reporters reached the area this morning, they found that locals had started repairing it by themselves so that they could move freely.
Cows were also seen competing with people for spaces on the same road for camping while others were seen grazing in water.
The locals say even a few animals they remained with are likely to die since they have nowhere to graze them from.
The residents now want the government to find them an alternative area where they can be transferred or be given money so that they can build other houses
