As Tooro Kingdom in partnership with MTN Uganda continues to rotate around the Counties(Masaza ) with the Bicycle Race competitions, Kyaka County riders have requested the telecommunications company which is also the official sponsor, to increase on the amount of money rewarded to the winners respectively.
In an up close with Jubilee Radio, Aziz Ssempija, who emerged the ordinary bike winner in today’s race that took place in Kyaka County Kyegegwa district, disclosed that the effort put by MTN to boost Tooro Kingdom sports is appreciated, but asked them to consider increasing the amount rewarded to the winners.
Ssempija argues that a big percentage of the given money is invested into repairing the bicycles, whereas the remainder is often inadequate to cater for trainings for their riders team as Kyaka.
The winner, further noted that the Sport program has so far been embraced by a bigger number of youth, this a need by the MTN and Tooro Kingdom Sports ministry to increase the number of those to be rewarded in a bid to encourage them.
Alvin Mulindwa the sports bikes winner of the day hailing from Kyaka county who also won the champions races in Fort Portal City last year, noted that the program has been beneficial to him, through not only uplifting his talent but also a source of income.
He expressed his readiness to further take part in the champions races this year, thanking MTN for the financial support.
It should be noted that, the rewarded are the top 5 from the two categories of bikes namely ordinary and Sports, with the difference of 100,000shs for the ordinary and Sports first Winners.
Aggrey Byaruhanga the Regional Marketing Manager, noted that the company is determined to Support a Sports activity within the Tooro Kingdom, following the Call by King Oyo to kick HIV in the Kingdom.
As MTN goes on identify and nurture talents, Aggrey attributed the lacking performance by the riders in the four counties of Kitagwenda, Kyaka, Kahunge and Mwenge South to inadequate training.
He however asked the Tooro Minister of Sports to consider handling that in the next trainings.
In response to the rider’s request of increased amount in the five token by MTN, Byaruhanga said the request would be delivered to the rightful people for consideration.
