The cluster of six dioceses in Midwestern Uganda is seeking 2.17 Billion Ug shillings to organize this year’s Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations on June 3rd at the Anglican shrine site in Namugongo Kampala. The cluster, includes dioceses of Ruwenzori, South Ruwenzori, East Ruwenzori, West Ruwenzori, Bunyoro-Kitara, and Masindi-Kitara were selected by the House of Bishops to oversee this year’s commemoration.
On June 3rd, thousands of Christians converge in Namugongo to honor the Uganda Martyrs, who were martyred under the orders of King Mwanga II of Buganda for sticking to their faith.
About 1.5 Bn expected from Ugandan government
Rt. Rev. Reuben Kisembo Amooti, Bishop of Ruwenzori diocese and chairperson of the Midwestern Uganda cluster, stated that they anticipate receiving 471 million shillings from various sources, including companies, individuals, and organizations, along with 200 million shillings from the six dioceses and 1.5 Billion shillings from the Central government.

Bishop Kisembo, outlined plans for the celebrations, which will be conducted in phases to accommodate different groups such as children, youth, women, and fathers’ unions, with separate speakers to alleviate congestion on the main day.
Nigerian Archbishop expected as a main Celebrant
The Mid Western C.O.U cluster chair person, mentioned that they have extended invitations to about 5000 guests, excluding local pilgrims. On the day itself, the Archbishop of Nigeria, the
Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, will deliver the main sermon, with President
Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the chief guest.
The celebrations will feature a 300-member choir, including 50 members selected from each of the six dioceses.This year’s Martry’s day will be celebrated under theme “Focusing on conforming to the truth of God’s word”, that revolve around Romans 12:1-2.
Bishop Kisembo, advised pilgrims to ensure they have sufficient funds to cover their expenses during their journey to Namugongo and back to their respective dioceses.
The event, marks the second occasion in 15 years that the cluster of six dioceses of Midwestern Uganda has led the Uganda Martyrs Day celebration, according to Bishop Kisembo
