The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industries, and Fisheries (MAAIF) has officially launched the Uganda Climate-Smart Agricultural Transformation Project (UCSATP) in Kabarole District. The project aims to enhance productivity, market access, and the resilience of key value chains in the region, while also ensuring a prompt and effective response to eligible emergencies.
During the launch meeting at the District Headquarters in Kitumba, Fort Portal, Alex Asiimwe, Deputy Project Coordinator at the Ministry of Agriculture, emphasized that the initiative will foster sustained production and productivity, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and help communities better adapt to the challenges of climate change.
As part of the project, farmers from various groups at the parish level, organized according to agroecological zones, will receive various agricultural inputs, including cows for both beef and dairy production, coffee seedlings, and fish fingerlings. These efforts aim to protect the environment and mitigate the effects of global warming.
Richard Rwabuhinga, Chairperson of Kabarole District, expressed his appreciation to the NRM government for supporting farmers through multiple interventions aimed at socio-economic transformation. He urged extension staff, LC3 chairpersons, and local chiefs to mobilize farmers to prepare for the distribution of inputs, which will go directly to them.
Mugabe Deo Musinguzi, LC3 Chairperson of Rutete, highlighted that the inputs will help boost farmers’ productivity and encouraged people to organize themselves into farmer groups to maximize the benefits.
