The Mpanga Catchment Management Committee (CMC) has resolved to intensify sensitization of the masses on the value of environment conservation to protect River Mpanga.
During the Committee sitting held at Kabarole District Youth Center, Dr. Guma Brian the Team Leader Albert Water Management Zone (AWMZ) said communities in the catchment area have been supported to establish and promote alternative income generating activities for improved livelihood. He says training of stakeholder groups and beneficiary community members in soil and water conservation measure is also on going.
The Committee Chairperson Rwabuhinga Richard who doubles as the LCV Kabarole says Mpanga Catchment provides a lot of water for Agricultural production, home consumption, and hydro electricity generation in Kamwenge saying if people cannot protect it as a huge economic asset, the region is bound to lose these projects.
He decried the increasing pollution by plastic bottles, human activities in the upstream that compromised the water of quality turning it to be brown.
