MTN Uganda, a telecommunications company has significantly contributed 15 million Shillings to aid the preparations for the upcoming Uganda Martyrs’ celebrations at the Namugongo Anglican Shrine.
The donation was on Friday May 3rd 2024, presented to Bishop Reuben Kisembo Amooti of Ruwenzori Diocese, who also chairs the Midwestern Cluster at St.Johns Cathedral in FortPortal City, in the presence of some church leaders and the FortPortal Member of Parliament, Hon.Alex Ruhunda Akiiki.
MTN committed to giving back to society
Allan Makanga, the Regional Manager of MTN MOMO, emphasized MTN’s dedication to giving back to society and introduced a MOMO code for donations to the “Anglican Church Midwestern Cluster” as part of their 20th-anniversary celebration of mobile money.
According to Makanga, individuals will be required to dail *165*3*590539# and forward their contribution without any charges.
Speaking at the very function, Hon. Alex Ruhunda praised MTN for their contribution to holistic development and digital innovation as evidenced via increased MOMO transactions at people’s convenience.
He expressed gratitude to the company for supporting faith through recognizing the deeds of the Martyr’s who died way back.
The Chairperson Anglican Church Midwestern Cluster, Bishop Rauben Kisembo Amooti , expressed gratitude for MTN’s generosity, with hope that the contributed amount will help a lot in the preparations.
The Bishop appealed for further support, noting that the current funds raised cover barely 20% of the required budget.
He invited believers to join the Midwestern Cluster’s celebrations physically on June 3rd at Namugongo, mentioning some of the activities anticipated including youth engagement among others.
Earlier this year, the house of Bishops of Church of Uganda, selected the Dioceses within the Midwestern Cluster including Ruwenzori Diocese, West Ruwenzori, East Ruwenzori, South Ruwenzori, Bunyoro Kitara and Masindi Kitara to animate the 3rd June Martyr’s day celebrations at 2024 at Namugongo Anglican Shrine in Kampala.
