In about 8 days to the 200th Empango celebration, Tooro Kingdom in partnership with MTN Uganda has today hosted the county bicycle race grand finale, dubbed Empaaka ze’egali, an activity before the forthcoming Empaango, in engaging and unitingTooro people to prepare for the day.
This follows the completion of bicycle race competitions in the 9 counties of the Kingdom, including Burahya, Ntoroko, Kitagwenda, Kibaale, FortPortal, Bunyangabu, Mwenge North, Mwenge South, and Kyaka as funded by MTN Uganda.
The activity was flagged off by His royal majesty Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, at Karuziika, who also drove a bicycle in demonstration of the event.
Kyaka county leads in Winners
According to Owek. Micheal Wandera, a total of 90 riders from the 9 counties in the Kingdom of Tooro, actively participated in riding about 30kilometres from Karuziika to Kihondo and back to Buhunga stadium, but only 10 were rewarded, considering the 1st five of sports bikes, and the other first five of ordinary bicycles.

The overall winners of the competition include Aziz kugonza and Alvin Ategeka from Kyaka county, who walked away with 2M and 1.5 Ushs respectively.

Tooro premier lauds King Oyo for restoring Tooro
Owek. Stephen Kiyingi, the Tooro Premier, has lauded King Oyo for fully supporting co-curricular activities in the Kingdom and the rest of the community for participating in the event. He added that King Oyo has through such special activities restored the glory of Tooro.
The premier further thanked MTN, for fostering cultural development through supporting Tooro activities, and bringing people together for such a cause.
He pledged full support for such kinds of activities. Notably, premier Kiyingi has addressed the Tooro people physically for the first time.
MTN Hails Tooro
Godfrey Muhindo, Chief commercial officer MTN Uganda, appreciated the zeal and discipline portrayed by the Tooro people throughout the activity, but pledged on behalf of MTN, total support in the activity, but pledged on behalf of MTN, total support in areas of education, culture, and health in the region.
The bicycle race, which is also the first of its kind in the Kingdom, has been concluded successfully without any disruptions and accident cases.
