All roads yesterday led to Kicuucu in Kyenjojo, where Fort Portal Catholic diocese,yet again birthed a parish, named after Our lady of Fatima- Kicuucu.

The inauguration of Kicuucu parish, commenced with holy Mass by Msgr Isaiah Mayombo Adyeri, the Vicar General Fort Portal, representing Bishop Muhiirwa, who could not avail himself at the moment due to other official duties in Nairobi.
The Vicar general in his his homily to hundreds of congregants, implored Christians to push forward the great work which God has implanted into them.
“Congratulations Kicuucu parish people for attaining the Parish. Your zeal and continuous faith, which has always been observed in your faithful service while still under your mother parish Butiiti, has not been in vain.” remarked Msgr.Mayombo.
Bishop Muhiirwa on the inauguration of Kicuucu
In his written message to Kicuucu people, Bishop Muhiirwa congratulated them upon the achievement which has not just come on a silver plate, but via tireless combined efforts.
The Bishop implored Christians to always pray through Mother Mary who has made their dream come true in October, to lead them through Sustainability and desired development.
He requested the pioneer Priest to be courageous and asked Christians to closely associated with him in fostering both economic and spiritual development of the area.
Christians ready to work with the given priests
The lay faithful of Kicuucu , through the Chairperson council of laity, Angeline Kabasomi Tumusiime, lauded Bishop Muhiirwa for accepting to upgrade them to the Parish level, and the clergy for appreciating and approving their request.
They pledged to double work hard, to sustain the Parish status granted to them.
Poor infrastructure impeding Kicuucu area development
A section of Christians joined by the LCV of the area, decried poor infrastructure including poor road network, water scarcity and lack of electricity a threat to the area’s desired development.
Electricity scarcity they noted, has limited growth of businesses associated with technology in the area.
A one Angeline Kabasomi Tumusiime C/P council of laity, requested their priests to lobby for their parish in overcoming the above challenges, together with Kyenjojo leaders.
Socio-economic transformation
Hon. Faith Philo Kunihira the Kyenjojo woman Mp doubling as the function’s organizing chair, observed that the parish status is meant to catalyze development in the area like Schools, health centers and clean water, which has already been extended to the Christians into same village.
“We are here to celebrate the fruit of faith, but I appeal to the parish priest to use both hands productively and effectively. One for spiritual nourishment and another for fostering socio- economic growth with your dear Christians for the betterment of the area.”said Hon.Kunihira.
Hon,Tom Butime, MP Mwenge central and cabinet Minister of tourism and Wild life antiquities,on the same function congratulated Christians upon the achievement of Parish status, but cautioned them to grow and nourishing it.
He further contributed 6m Shillings to aid in pushing forward the commenced parish work.
Other political leaders present included Jackline Kyatuhairwe deputy treasurer NRM secretariat, who welcomed Kicuucu parish with 4 million, Hon.Justine Kasule Lumumba, Minister for general duties -OPM 5million among others.
The Minister for general duties (OPM) Justine Kasule Lumumba who witnessed the Kicuucu Parish inauguration as a chief guest, lauded Kicuucu people for the faith, and work done, and Bishop Muhiirwa and the entirely clergy for for the effort.
The minister, further commended Fort Portal diocese for raising the national flag high, following the successful Marty’s day animation 2022.
She lauded Kyenjojo people for utilizing government money productively, as portrayed in the work of their hands for instance Coffee and Tea. She conveyed her Contribution of 5miliion Shillings towards the commencement of Parish works.
Hon.Lumumba, quested for collective efforts with the clergy in effectively allocating resources since they can easily identify the ones most in need.
She promised to convey the presented pleas to President Museveni and cabinet the following day.
Reportedly, Kicuucu parish under the leadership of Fr.John Kiiza Akiiki, and inaugurated by Msgr. Mayombo, is the 32nd parish of Fort Portal Diocese.
