The news of his death was broke by the Security Minister and Rujumbura County Legislator Maj Gen Jim Katugugu Muhwezi.
According to him, he was informed by the Bishop’s wife Mama Gladys Magezi through a phone call.
“Dear brothers sad to announce demise of Bishop Benon Magezi of North Kigezi Diocese. The wife Gladys rang me and was calm and strong but pray for her at such a time as this. Psalm 121:1 I look up to the hills where does my help come from. My help comes from the Lord maker of heaven and earth” Muhwezi in a what’s app message.
The Bishop has been admitted at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for weeks battling the deadly Covid19.
He becomes the first active Bishop to succumb to the scourge since it started in March 2020.
