The Natural Resources Defense Initiatives -NRDI has on Friday planted more than 1000 trees of different species at Uganda People’s Defense Forces, Mountain Division -Muhoti army barracks in Fort Portal Tourism City Western Uganda,calling for increased efforts to restore and conserve the Environment.
According to Mr.Benon Bwalhuma,the Programs Manager NRDI said this was the second phase tree planting at the Barracks aiming at greening the environment and saving nature .
While launching the second phase,Benon noted that through partnerships and collaborations with institutions and other stakeholders,over 4 millions of trees have been planted since 2021 in the districts of Rwenzori ,Tooro regions and beyond.
He rallied community members and men in uniforms to embrace such campaigns to protect and embrace conservation campaigns for sustainable Development.
Nesta Larry, Assistant Deputy Resident City Commissioner, Fort Portal Tourism City commended NRDI for such great initiatives to protect nature and asked the general public to desist from environment destruction.
He warned encroachers of wetlands and asked them to stop the habit, saying arrests awaits such perpetrators.
Maj.General James Birungi,the Commandant Mountain Division,welcomed the campaign and promised total support for conversation efforts.
Afande James also asked NRDI to keep planting more trees in most affected areas like in kasese district and called for collective responsibility in combating degradation.
Natural Resources Defense Initiatives is a national non-profit organization mandated to protect Natural Resources in the Albertine Region through Conservation and Community led initiative.
