Edgar Muganzi, Executive Director of the Natural Resource Development Initiative (NRDI), has called on residents of the Rwenzori region to plant indigenous tree species to mitigate the effects of climate change.
Muganzi attributed climate change to deforestation, noting that widespread tree cutting without reforestation efforts has harmed the environment. He emphasized the importance of tree planting, particularly during the rainy season, to promote sustainable environmental practices.
The NRDI executive director encouraged residents to take advantage of the current rainy season to plant trees, highlighting the role that individuals can play in addressing climate change through sustainable practices.
Recently, the Natural Resource Defence Initiative (NRDI) embarked on a tree-planting project in schools across Kabarole District. The initiative, dubbed “Greening Uganda Schools,” aims to educate children on the benefits of trees in combating climate change effects.
The organization distributed trees to schools in Mugusu Town Council, Karago Town Council, and Kicwamba sub-county, Kabarole District. This exercise is part of a broader effort to promote environmental conservation and sustainability.
