Over 20 aspiring candidates from the National Unity platform have been duly nominated in several seats in Tooro sub region as we anticipate for the 2026 general elections.
This has been seen as the first of its kind in Tooro where opposition has been left behind when it comes to occupying several seats which have been dominated by the ruling party NRM.
According to the regional coordinator for NUP Tooro sub-region Davis Rwamuhumbu, the party has occupied seats including the mayorship, Mpship, local councils among others.
Rwamuhumbu has said that they have nominated at least 12 district councilors, 2 Division mayors, 4 city councilors among others and all these are from the 9 districts that make up Tooro sub region including Kyenjojo,Kyegegwa, Kabarole, Fort Portal city, kitagwenda, Bunyangabu and other districts.
Rwamuhumbu adds that tomorrow they are also set to nominate chairpersons LC3s who will be announced by the party.
He however expressed concern over threats by some security agencies which have continued to intimidate their candidates, something he has said has put their lives at stake and some have already dropped out from the race.
Among the nominated candidates that have been nominated include John Kahwa Kansengerwa for city division Fort Portal central division and Fortunate Kwikiriza for the division mayor North division.
