Court sets date for hearing of NUP case.

By Augustine Kabooha.

Opposition National Unity Platform NUP Party has announced date for the long waited peaceful demonstrations in the selected seven (7) districts of Tooro Kingdom.

Innocent Natukunda NUP team leader Tooro region says they have already notified security about the planned activities on the fateful day

Speaking to us Natukunda revealed that senior management team leaders have been identified and deployed in selected hotspot areas of Kyegegwa, Kyenjojo, Kamwenge, Bunyangabu, Kabarole and Fort-portal city where demonstrations will be conducted

Our reporter has obtained a letter dated 20th March 2021 addressed to the Regional Police Commander and copied to all DPCs, RDCs and DISOs informing them that peaceful demonstrations will kickoff at exactly 09am in all indicated districts

The purpose of the demonstrations is to demand for immediate release of our illegally detained comrades/supporters and also claim our victory as of the 2021 general elections! Read part of the document.

It adds that “The good news is also that our heads of mobilization have been tasked to ensure Covid-19 SOPs are observed during demonstrations”

The letter also quoted NUP the constitution of the Republic of Uganda article (29) (d) which gives legal authority to freedom of assembly and peaceful demonstrations.

When contacted by Jubilee radio the regional police commander confirmed receipt of the letter but couldn’t give details
