In an effort to support the Bishop and ensure the smooth continuation of various duties within the Diocese of Fort Portal, a total of 155 million was successfully collected during the Bishop’s Day Celebrations.
The festivities, also serving as a fundraising event, started with holy Mass led by Bishop Muhiirwa, at the Bishop’s residence in Kijanju Ward, Fort Portal City.
Contributions in form of financial collections, included 96,679,700 Shillings in cash and pledges amounting to 58,600,000 Shillings.
Msgr. Isaiah Mayombo Adyeri, the Vicar General of Fort Portal who confirmed the figures and attributed the event’s success to the combined efforts of individuals both within and outside the diocese.
Fr. Edward Muhumuza Akiiki, Chairperson of the organizing committee, acknowledged the tireless and collective efforts of the organizing committee, the Vicar General, and supportive Christians, attributing them to the success of the day.
The chief guest, Lawyer Friday Robert Kagoro from Mwema and Company Advocates in Kampala, recognized the event as a unifying factor for most Christians.
Counsel Kagoro on Function
Counsel Kagoro stressed the importance of maintaining a spirit of unity for the improvement of Tooro and highlighted regional disunity fueled by political leaders.
He contributed 6.5 million Shillings to support the Bishop and the Diocese.
Making his first public appearance since his illness, Bishop Robert Muhiirwa presided over the day’s mass, urging Christians to embrace fellowship with God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in their daily lives.
The function was equally graced by distinguished dignitaries including Hon. Victoria Rusoke minister for local government who contributed 2m shs, Hon. Adolf Mwesige Clerk to Parliament, Hon. Linda Irene Mugisa Woman MP Fort Portal City, Hon. Peace Regis Mutuuzo Mp Bunyangabu, Hon. Richard Rwabuhinga District Chairperson Kabarole, Traxier Komuntale among others who greatly contributed to the cause.
