Rev. Sister Judith Kenkimba the head-teacher of St. Maria Goretti Girls Secondary School in Fort Portal, has warned parents who frequently neglect their responsibilities during the holidays.
According to Kenkiimba, it is a parental responsibility to watch over the children while at home during holidays, to ensure their safety and continuity with education as they wait for the reopening of schools for third term.
The head teacher, was over the weekend addressing a parents meeting held at the school premises at Virika hill in Fort Portal City where she applauded them for tirelessly supporting the school and their daughters without hesitation.
According to the Ministry of Education school calendar 2023, learners reported for second term on May 29, and will officially break off for holidays this week on Friday August 25, 2023.
Jane Atwine, a parent, says that one of the serious challenges being faced in the country currently especially Tooro region, is High HIV/Aids prevalence and teenage pregnancies, hence asking fellow parents to protect the girl child while in the village.
She advised parents to communicate with their children in order to end the rise of teenage pregnancies and HIV/Aids rate.
Third term will begin on September 18th 2023 and will close on 1st December 2023.
