Porter Dies, Another Injured After Serious Assault by Prisoners

Community unwilling to settle disputes with police following thorough beatings by prisoners

The Rwenzori West police is investigating circumstances under which a one Baguma Paul  36, a Porter and a  resident of Kakoga “A” Zone Kakoga Ward/Kakinga Town Council, was allegedly assaulted by prisoners and a prison warder from Rwimi Government Prison together with his friend Thembo Mark  28, also a Porter and a resident of same area.

 

 

Scenario

According to the Rwenzori police spokesperson Vincent Twesige, It’s alleged that on December 25, 2022, the duo went to Rwimi government prison farm to pick residual Rice that remains after the harvest , and therein the garden they were found by the Shamba guards, who were two prisoners and a prison warder.

They were assaulted by the trio and chased away from the farm after having been beaten thoroughly.

 

 

The onlookers who included Baguma son of Joseph and another woman guarding her rice made an alarm that attracted other people.

 

On arrival they found when Baguma had died and was carried to his rental house in Kakoga A Zone whereas Thembo Mark was taken for medical attention in Kakinga Town Council.

 

 

 

According to Twesige,the deceased and Victim were beaten using sticks and batoon. The Duo went to Rwimi Government Prison to pick residual Rice because of poverty.

The police however says that Relationship between the Community members and the Prisons is currently poor because of Beatings by the Prisons Staff and prisoners.
