Religious Sisters belonging to the Congregation of Daughters of St.Theresa (Banyatereza) have been implored to desist from pride, and turn to childlike faith, humility if they are to make a positive impact in their vocation.
The Call, was made by the Rt.Rev.Dr Robert Muhiirwa Akiiki, Bishop of Fort Portal Diocese, during Holy Mass in commemoration of St.Therese of Lissuex, held at the Banyatereza Mother House Chapel in Virika, Fort Portal City.
In his homily, the Bishop emphasized the need by the sisters to emulate the humility of their patron saint Theresa who devoted her love to Christ after her first Communion, and dreamed of sharing the same kind of love to everyone else in the world.
He therefore tasked them to carry on the legacy of St.Theresa through loving God and making him loved to the rest of the people. This is only possible he explained, if the sisters practice peaceful coexistence amongst themselves, fronting obedience and desisting from selfish desires.
The Bishop, also cautioned them on disobeying their superiors like complaining of assigned responsibilities,which could make them miss out God’s blessings. He equally told them to stop prioritizing earthly titles that make them look better than others, but rather humble themselves like children in their service.
The prelate, who attributed St.Theresa’s Legacy to the filial love between her and her father, explained to the sisters that that it’s the live that gave her confidence to devote to Christ, wishing others to share on it.
Reflecting on the prevailing situation in families, Muhiirwa tasked the sisters to utilize their positions in their vocation to remind men back in their homes and communities to actively love their children , as one way of fully grooming useful and morally upright children.
Sisters hailed for Building the nation
On the very function, Bishop Muhiirwa’s speech after Mass reflected partly on the efforts made by the nun’s in building the nation.
He told sister teachers that their efforts are not in vain and should never be taken for granted, saying that they have nurtured and groomed the best and important citizens out there.
The Bishop, who gave an example of a one Dr Saphina Biira, the deputy vice Chancellor Busitema University, attributed her success to quality grooming by the Banyatereza at St.Maria Goreti girls school in Fort Portal City.
Notably, the bishop asked the sisters to pray for the Bishops Synod on synodality slated to take place in Rome in this month of October, saying that therein the synod, a number of issues pertaining the Catholic faith will be discussed.
On her part, Sr. Seraphim Katesirwa, the Banyatereza Sisters Mother general, on the same function took time to thank the Bishop for his enormous support to their congregation, which gives them courage to push on.
Sr.Kaitesirwa, however asked for financial, spiritual and physical support from all well wishers , as the congregation plans to expand their buildings, because of the growing population.
The Celebrations of their Feast Day were graced by distinguished guests including, Msgr Mayombo, Fr Athanasius Ahurwendaire, Fr Sam Mugisa, Fr Thadeus Musabe, Fr Paul Mugabyomu, Fr Edward Muhumuza, Religious Brothers from St.Josephs the worker, Camillian Father’s and brothers, Government officialsamong others.
