As the World commemorates the International Day of afforests, a day for raising awareness about the importance of all types of forests,Natural Resources Defense Initiatives(NRDI) has asked residents of Kabarole District to embrace Afforestation.
Speaking During a community Engagement Meeting about the importance of environmental conservation that was organized in Karangura Sub county,the Executive Director NRDI Edgar Muganzi encouraged the community to protect the environment through planting indigenous trees.
“It is important for each member of the community to take responsibility for the environment by carrying out practices that are environmentally friendly,” he said, adding that afforestation is one of the best practices for conservation.
He explained that afforestation improves on the soil cover and controls calamities that may result from soil erosion which acts as a preventative measure.
The Chairperson LCIII Karangura Sub county Erikana Kahuzo appreciated NRDI for the continuous commitment towards environmental conservation.
“NRDI has always been committed towards environmental conservation practices and this is evident on its programs of community engagement in best practices of environmental conservation,” he said
