Speaking at the commemoration of World environmental day  on 7th June 2022 in Bunyangabu district, Masereka observed that a number of government officials hide   in the name of State house to degrade wetlands which is contrary to the environmental laws and policies.

“Our president His excellence Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is always advocating  for environmental  conservation and protection, why are you tinting our government’s image by pretending to be State house workers that are using that authority to degrade natural resources?” wondered RDC Masereka.

He further asked the environmental department of  at Bunyangabu district, arrest  with immediate effect any one who adamantly destroys buffer zones, and the environment at large.

According to  the Senior Environmental Officer for Bunyangabu, Edgar Muganzi,  environmental protection and conservation calls for a collective and transformative action for everyone.

He said, protecting and conserving the environment doesn’t need to be done by only the environmental department but the community at large.

Currently, along Kasese-Fort Portal High way, slightly after Rubona stock farm, there’s a wetland that is being degraded by an individual who claims to be a state house official.

The person,  even uses inmates of Rwimi Prisons as work force.
