The Congregation of the Holy Cross Province of East Africa is pleased to announce the election of Rev. Fr. Caxton Peter Mayanja, C.S.C., as the new provincial superior.
The news was announced on the website of CSC East Africa, congratulating the new superior and hailing the previous superior for the work done.
On 9th January 2023, the Province of East Africa, Elected Fr. Peter Caxton Mayanja, C.S.C as the 2nd Provincial. He Succeeds Fr. Cyprian Binaka, C.S.C who led the Province of East Africa from January 8th, 2023, when the province was inaugurated. We pray for blessings and the gift of wisdom on to our new provincial.
In the same spirit, we express deep gratitude to Fr. Cyprian Binaka, CSC, the former Provincial Superior, for his exemplary leadership, we honor his contributions and thank him for guiding our Province with grace.

In a solemn ceremony held yesterday morning in Kampala, Uganda, Fr. Mayanja took the oath of office amidst the divine presence of the Superior General, Br. Paul Bednarczyk, CSC, and his vicar, Fr. Emmanuel Kallarackal, CSC.
This appointment signifies the transition from the leadership of Rev. Fr. Cyprian Binaka, CSC, to the leadership of of Fr. Caxton Mayanja.
In assuming the role of provincial superior, Fr. Mayanja becomes the second individual to hold this esteemed position in the recently celebrated one-year-old Holy Cross East Africa Province. He succeeds Fr. Binaka, who dedicated a year of devoted service in the same capacity but six years as a district superior.
About the new Superior
Fr. Peter Caxton Mayanja, C.S.C., a devoted member of the Congregation of Holy Cross Province of East Africa from Uganda, embarked on his religious journey with First Vows in 2013. His commitment to the Congregation’s mission deepened with Final Vows in 2016, followed by Ordination in 2017.
During 2016-2017, he served as Deputy Head Teacher Finance and Administration at St. Joseph’s Hill Secondary School, showcasing financial acumen and responsibility. From 2018 to 2023, Fr. Peter held roles as District Steward, Provincial Steward for a year, and contributed to the strategic direction of the Province.
Actively involved in governance, he served on the District Council and Provincial Council for three and one year, respectively, leaving a lasting impact on decision-making. Fr. Peter is recognized not only for his administrative prowess but also for his unwavering commitment to the Congregation’s charism, emphasizing education, community service, and spiritual formation.
The province of Holy Cross East Africa which was elevated from a level of a district, was inaugurated on January 8, 2023 in Virika Cathedral Fort Portal City in Uganda, in a function that saw Rev, Fr. Binaka appointed as the pioneer superior of the province.
