According to project coordinator Emanuel Muhumuza, the club was prompted to act after a request from community members led by Robert Mutunzi, who highlighted the difficulties residents faced following the breakdown of their only shallow well.
“We mobilized funds among ourselves as Rotaract members and engaged engineers to restore the well so that people can once again access safe water,” Muhumuza explained. He also noted that the club has lined up eight community projects this year, with this being the third, following a recent health camp at Bukuku Health Center IV.
Local Council I Chairperson, Charles Bamanyisa, welcomed the project, noting that residents had struggled for decades since the well was last rehabilitated in 1995. “We are grateful to Rotaract for stepping in to address this urgent need,” he said.
Club president, Joseph Mugenyi, revealed that the UGX 3 million project will be implemented in three phases over the next month. “Our goal is to serve the community by mobilizing resources and carrying out projects that improve lives,” he added.
During the official launch, District Rotaract Representative Abisachi Nahabwe praised the Rotaract Club of Kabarole for their commitment to community service. “This is a commendable initiative that demonstrates the spirit of giving back,” Nahabwe said.
