The Rotary Club of Kabarole has today distributed 500 insecticide-treated mosquito nets to vulnerable households in Rubingo Parish, North Division of Fort Portal.
The activity is part of the Rotary Community Action for Malaria Prevention and Health Improvement Project, implemented in partnership with Malaria Partners Uganda and Malaria Partners International.
According to the project lead, Franklin Tumuhairwe, the mosquito nets were distributed to households identified during a community baseline survey carried out in collaboration with the Fort Portal City Health Department, North Division health officials, and Village Health Teams.
The distribution took place at Rubingo Health Centre III and was accompanied by community sensitization sessions on malaria prevention and the proper use of mosquito nets.
Health officials encouraged residents to sleep under mosquito nets every night and seek early testing and treatment for malaria.
Rotary leaders say the initiative aims to strengthen malaria prevention efforts and improve public health in communities most affected by the disease, which remains one of the leading causes of illness in Uganda, particularly among children under five and pregnant women.
