Ruhunda Attributes Road Accidents To Motorists & Riders

The Member of Parliament for Fort Portal central, Hon. Alex Ruhunda, doubling as the chairperson parliamentary committee on road safety, has disclosed that at least 95% road accidents are caused by motorists.

According to his research, most motorists misuse the roads by over speeding, recklessness, driving while drunk, among others.

 

Ruhunda, disclosed that incase road users, especially motorists and the riders follow the road traffic rules, there will be a reduction in road accidents.

He said this, during the launch of road safety campaign under the Rotaract club of Kabarole in Booma Fort Portal yesterday.

According to the Rotaract club of Kabarole president Ivan Sulfur  Mugambwa, rotaracts , realized that there is an increase in road accidents especially by boda boda riders.

 

For this reason, they embarked on a sensitization campaign by buying for them reflector jackets to re,ind them of being safe.

City Police Commander on the cause

 

The Fort Portal city police commander, Dennis Odochi, challenged motorists and the riders to be the change agents.

He appealed to them to spread the gospel on the fight against road carnage. Odochi, also asked motorists to be disciplined on the road.

 

Boda Riders react

Meanwhile the boda boda riders  in Fort Portal, have accused motorists who drive badly on the road and end up knocking them.
