Ruhunda Tasks Police To Combat High Crime Rate In Fort Portal

The Fort Portal Mp central division Alex Ruhunda, has tasked the Rwenzori west police to fight insecurity in the region for its development.

 

 

Ruhunda, made these remarks, during the peeping ceremony of 22 police officers from the Rwenzori West, who were promoted from different ranks   last week by president Museveni.

The legislator, noted that  Fort Portal  being a tourism city, calls for fighting crime rate, in a bid to create a conducive atmosphere for the tourists.

 

 

 

Richard Rwabuhinga, the chairperson for Kabarole district, has commended President Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Museveni, for promoting the police officers, stating that this is a one way of motivating them to further perform their duties diligently.

 

 

 

 

Albert Ahebwa, the speaker for Fort Portal, has appealed to the promoted officers, to respect the rights of Ugandans through sidestepping acts of torture, abductions, corruption, among others.

 

 

 

Meanwhile, Norman Musinga the RPC for Rwenzori west has challenged the officers to maintain discipline and determination as they perform the respective duties expected of them.

 

 

 

About promoted officers

 

The Police Act

In exercise of the powers vested in  him under section 9(i) of the Police Act, the president of Uganda and on advice of the Police Authority has appointed on promotion 773 gazetted police officers to the ranks of Assistant Inspector General,  Senior Commissioner of Police, Commissioner of Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Senior Superintendent of Police, Superintendent of Police and Assistant Superintendent of Police.

First in six years

The latest promotion is the first of gazetted officers in the Police force in a period of six years.

The last promotion was done in February 2016 under the leadership of Gen Kale Kayihura but since then, these had been put on a halt.

 

 

The latest promotion, has seen at least five of these directors promoted to Assistant Inspector General of Police, meaning they will now be confirmed since they have acquired the prerequisite rank to hold the respective offices.

The Promotions, also come at a time, CID officers  concluded their training, in which President Museveni challenged them to remain trustworthy to Ugandans

In the Rwenzori west, 22 police officers were promoted to different ranks including RPC Norman Musinga to ACP ,D/RPC Lameck Kigozi to SSP,  R/CLO Bwambale Milton to SSP , R/CFPU Nyakato Milly to SP, DPC kyegegwa Namutosi Salama to SP, DPC kyenjojo Sikahwa Rosette to SP, DPC kitagweda Mugarura Henry to SP,  DPC kamwenge Namutunzi Diana to SP,DPC kabarole kyasiimire Francis to SP,DPC fortportal North Richman Richard to SP,DPC Fort Portal East Akatulinda Michael to Sp, DPC bundibugyo Okumu Aggy to SP, R/HR Neima Nambafu Nakimera to SPR/Fire Ekyakuziire mercy to SP, RTO Mahadi Juma to SP,R/Legal Ayikoru Josephine to SP,R/Surgeon Dr Katalemwa Jonathan to SP ,City CLO Tumwesigye Enock to Asp among others.
