John Kinuge the chairperson of Rwenzori Katebwa Civilian War Veterans Association has dismissed claims accusing him of selling veterans’ land at Kyabanyaga cell, North Division Fort-portal City.
Currently, there is a heated debate among war veterans of Kabarole District and Fort Portal City, with a section of members accusing their leader of betrayal, land grabbing, and suppressing their right to self-governance. They also accuse Kinuge of unlawfully selling part of their 8.5 acres of land without their consent.
The land in question was collectively purchased using contributions from veterans of Fort Portal and Kabarole with each veteran contributing 30,000 Uganda Shillings united by a common goal of establishing income-generating projects such as brick-making and tree planting.
Julius Turyasingura, the interim Chairperson of the defected Kabarole District Veterans Association accuses Kinuge of exceeding his authority by unlawfully taking over the land and running its affairs without their involvement. According to Tulyasingura, Kinuge has gone ahead and sold off parts of the land to unknown individuals.
Speaking to reporters John Kinuge clarified that a portion of the land has been leased to an investor to carry out a poultry farm for 20 years upon agreement by the veteran’s general meeting. The proceeds shall benefit members without segregation.
