The Rwenzori West police is celebrating a notable success in the utilization of CCTV cameras on highways to combat crime in the region. Asp Benson Musinguzi, the regional ICT officer, has addressed concerns from the public about the functionality of these cameras, asserting that they have proven instrumental in apprehending numerous criminals since their installation.
According to Musinguzi, over 20 cases have been successfully registered through the use of these cameras, leading to the recovery of stolen cars, motorcycles, and the enforcement of road discipline.
In light of this success, he has disclosed that the police are actively planning to expand the network of cameras by installing them in areas currently lacking coverage.
ASP Musinguzi, also took the opportunity to encourage the public to consider installing cameras in their homes as a preventive measure.
He emphasized the role of such surveillance in enhancing overall security and deterring criminal activities.
