Residents living in the Rwenzori region have been asked to be security conscious and vigilant in a bid to fight insecurity in our communities.
The caution has been sounded by Mrs. Christine Muhindo the Senior Presidential advisor who doubles as the National Treasurer NRM Women’s league and in charge of veterans for Rwenzori affairs. In an interview, Muhindo says as citizens we need to put up strategies of fighting criminals and enemies that want to destabilize the country and our communities adding that the government introduced structures right from LC1 level to the district thus tasking the leaders to coordinate with residents in being security conscious, report unknown people in communities among others.
The Senior Presidential advisor further tasked residents to be united so as to benefit from a common good. She says Rwenzori region is blessed with kingdoms such as Tooro, Obusinga & Obudingiya with a lot of natural resources including natural forests, lakes, rivers, copper, national parks that can unite the citizens and spur development.
Citing an example of Fort Portal city being a tourism city and the center of the region, Muhindo says we need to be united and harness the potentials of tourism and develop the entire region and country.
On the issue of government programs, Mrs Muhindo says government introduced a wide range of economic empowerment programs including UWEP, YLP, EMYOOGA, PDM among others meant to foster development in communities thus there is no reason why people should be poor.
She adds that residents should seize the opportunities available including land, startup capital among others, be ready to work, prepare projects and benefit from these development oriented program.
Kato Tom the Vice Chairman NRM Fort Portal & Chairman Midwestern media & NRM Mobiliser says the government has improved on security, freedom and contributed a lot towards the economic stability of the Uganda through the various development programs established.
