The International Water & Sanitation Centre (IRC) has launched two Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) projects in the Rwenzori region, specifically benefiting the districts of Kabarole and Bunyangabu. The first project, funded by the Pictet Group Foundation, is worth 1.5 billion shillings and will run for three years, accelerating the implementation of the WASH Master Plan for both districts.¹
The project aims to strengthen WASH systems, increasing access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services, particularly in institutions like schools and health facilities.
The second project, funded by The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, is a renewal of 2.7 billion shillings and will benefit seven districts. Its primary focus is on enhancing safe water governance by providing technical assistance to the Ugandan government, ultimately strengthening safe water policies and regulations.
Kabarole District Chairman, Mr. Rwabuhinga Richard, praised IRC for extending WASH services, highlighting the significance of these projects in improving the lives of people in communities in the region.
Rwabuhinga noted that IRC services have transformed the lives of the rural population preventing some.water bone diseases in our communities.
The chairman appealed for more support from IRC to extend their interventions to.some schools that had their latrines collapsed and the water stressed areas to have more coverage by 2030.
