The Regional Police Commander for Rwenzori West, SP Joab Wabwire, has expressed concerns over the growing problem of livestock theft in the region.
Speaking during a guided tour focused on needs assessment, monitoring, and evaluating the performance of police officers, that was yesterday led by the Director of Political Commissar, ASP Bamunoba Ubaldo, SP Wabwire emphasized that despite the police’s efforts to combat crime in the area, livestock theft remains a persistent issue, particularly in districts such as Ntoroko, Kyenjojo, Kabarole, and others.
The RPC also revealed that police continue to face threats from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), especially in districts bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo. Despite these challenges, he noted that the police, in collaboration with sister agencies, have made significant efforts to curb criminal activity in the region.
Police urged to be Vigilant
In his address, ASP Bamunoba praised the police for their progress in fighting crime, but stressed that officers should remain vigilant and continue to protect Ugandans and their property by working closely with local stakeholders.
ASP Bamunoba further highlighted that the police have made strides in tackling robbery, with criminals arrested for targeting people along the Kampala highway. The police have also recovered firearms used to intimidate the community.
He mentioned that the force is in the process of registering all firearms to better track weapons that may end up in the wrong hands.
Afande Bamunoba, further explained that his regional tour is part of an ongoing effort to assess, monitor, and evaluate the performance of police officers across the country.
