A section of residents from Rwimi Town Council in Bunyangabu District have recommended the removal of the Rwimi trading center round-about, saying it has led to loss of lives and property after enough road crashes.

The accidents

According Wilson Tumwesigye, the OC Rwimi police station, at least 78 people died in road accidents in Rwimi trading center, between 2019 and December 2022.

What Residents Say

Yesterday, the Rwimi center B cell LCI Chairperson Saturday Chris Kasaija convened a meeting to discuss the way forward.

During the meeting at Rwimi primary school, dominated by traders from Rwimi trading center, participants supported either the removal or the reduction of the round-about with many arguing it is the root cause of accidents.

They also proposed the creation of a parking place and security check point at Bunjojo trading center in Kibiito Sub County to among others have a resting place for long distance vehicles before they reach the steep slope at Kasunganyanja trading center.

participants forge way forward

A 10 member committee was elected to follow up on the resolutions and its members include Rwimi center B cell LCI Saturday Chris Kasaija, mayor Rwimi Town Council, Jeniffer Kengaju, Kabonero Sub County LC3 Chairperson John Kyaligonza and Business community representative Charles Ngabirano among others.

Judith Katusabe the Rwimi Town Council law enforcement officer, called for immediate relocation of venders, taxi operators and boda boda riders operating along the round-about to create more space.
