There is heavy deployment in Mawogola north and west Sembabule district where the National Resistance Movement-NRM parliamentary primaries are underway.
The NRM electoral commission chairman, Dr. Tanga Odoi and Deputy Inspector General of Police Maj. Gen. Sabiti Muzeyi yesterday convened a meeting with all stakeholders; it’s clarified that every sub-county is manned by a District Police Commander (DPC) with about 200 police officers, polls kicked off at midday and Uganda People’s Defence Force-UPDF soldiers have also been deployed to reinforce police in the hotspots.
In Mawogola West, incumbent Joseph Ssekabiito Kitayimbwa is facing Sembabule district woman MP Hanifa Bangirana Kawooya while in Mawogola North where high tension is, Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa’s daughter Shartsi Kutesa is facing President Museveni’s brother Godfrey Aine Kaguta and Kisekka Salim.
In Mawogola north, approximately 37,000 people are going to the polls, 6 sub-counties and 146 parishes.
The primaries in two constituencies were halted hours to the polling day on September 4,2020, Tanga Odoi on Monday threatened to call off the election again and the constituencies remain without flag-bearers if violence continues dominating the area. Authorities have promised a calm situation.
Meanwhile,elections in Bukanga (26 villages) Isingiro district and Nyabushozi (28 villages) Kiruhura district will be held on October 2,2020.
