The RCC Fort Portal City, Hellen Kamwine, has asked parents and other stakeholders to prioritize guidance and counselling of their children , so that they can deter from joining activities of sex work and homosexuality.
She notes that the parents have totally done away with talking to their children about real life issues and expected changes.
The current research according to the RCC, reveals that these children are very active on social media and to a larger extent they search for immoral activities that include sex working and homo sexuality.
Digital growth statistics
The available research on internet usage in Uganda as conducted by Ultimate Media ,shows that at least 13.92 Million Ugandans which is about 29.1 of the country’s entire population, use internet and most of these are said to be the youth.
Key and priority population identified
RCC Kamwiine revealed the above in her speech during the closure of a one day stakeholder’s workshop, on the dissemination of guidelines on establishment and operations of Drop –In- Centers for Key and Priority Populations in Uganda, today at ATACO country Resort in Fort Portal Tourism City.
According to the designed message, key and Priority Populations include people at high risk of acquiring HIV. The highlighted groups include sex workers and homo sexuality culprits who have reportedly increased around Fort Portal.
The drop-in centers have also been regarded as areas where the high risked groups can access their services like ,Pills condoms, jellies and PEP at no cost .
Dr. Gerald Pande from the Ministry of Health disclosed that Kabarole and Fort Portal City have over 400 boys involved in homosexuality and that HIV prevalence among sex workers stands at 41 percent .
He thus advises parents and stakeholders to spare time and address these key issues to their children on to of directing them moral wise.
Kabarole RDC, Bandeba Festus Besigye ,asked the civil society organizations and health ministry to advocate for the integration of the Key Priority Populations in economic ventures because at one time, they will reach the diminishing returns when they are unable to sell their bodies.
