Sieve Information Before  Dispersing it- Bishop Muhiirwa to Public
Clare

The Catholic Diocese of Fort Portal has joined the rest of the world to observe the  57th World day of Social Communications

This year, the day was commemorated under the theme “Speaking with the heart: The truth in love”, [Eph 4:15] as pronounced by Pope Francis.
Earlier in his message, Pope Francis called upon Catholic Communicators to develop a cordial way of communication which can influence hardened hearts to open.

We should not be afraid of proclaiming the truth, even if it is at times uncomfortable, but of doing so without charity, without heart. #WCD https://t.co/PwJoo0RyQx

Bishop Muhiirwa, speaking on the same matter yesterday at Bukwali Parish, called for proper usage of Communication tools to disseminate true information.
He informed believers that the social communications day should remind them of the vital role information plays in the contemporary world, but cautioned them on poor usage of communication tools to spread violent messages, fake news, disinformation and misinformation among others.
The prelate, rather encouraged communicators to use the tools to evangelize the good news of Christ, and constructive information based on truth and love from the heart.
According to him, the impact of any said or published word should not be underrated, therefore  the public to should sieve information before bringing it out to the world.
The Bishop further illustrated on how people have used different platforms to disseminate violent information full of insults, saying this can result into unnecessary chaos.

Earlier last week during the social communications week workshop, the Secretary general Uganda Episcopal Conference, Msgr. John Baptist Kauta, called for effective communication without which, Church communicators would deep the Mother Church and local community into mud.
Addressing Church Communicators at Ulrika Guest house in Kisubi-Entebbe, Msgr. Kauta was particular about a national daily whose story was misleading about this year’s Martyrs’ day celebrations as a result of what he called ineffectiveness of an individual journalist.
He asked Communicators and Church leaders to communicate with the heart and love for purposes of guiding humanity and the Church of Christ.
Msgr. Kauta, who said he was aware about the burden shouldered by Church established media to serve their Mother Church, called for unity among communicators if they were to effectively deliver the mission of the Lord.
He said the Episcopal Conference would continue advancing plans for capacity building which he said need to be embraced by media houses and individual journalists to advance their knowledge for effective communication.
Over forty [40] communicators, attended this year’s National Social communications week that were officially closed by the celebrations on Sunday by His Grace Dr. Paul Semogerere, the Archbishop of Kampala.
