St.Mary’s Seminary to be Relocated from Fort Portal City to Kyenjojo

Kabooha

Fort Portal Catholic Diocese has authenticated news circulating on social media indicating that there are plans of shifting St. Mary’s Minor Seminary Virika from Fort Portal city to Kyenjojo district.

The Circulating Document

A letter dated  March 30 2023,  signed by Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert Muhiirwa the ordinary Bishop of Fort Portal catholic diocese,  started circulating on social media on Monday afternoon indicating  that St.Mary’s minor seminary Virika will shift to the premises of St. Augustine Teachers College Butiiti in Kyenjojo district.

In the same letter, the bishop appointed Mr. Aloysius Rujuma the diocesan education secretary -DES as chairperson steering committee that will oversee the shifting process.

Rujumba attributes shifting to expanded space preference

When contacted by Jubilee radio reporter,  Rujumba confirmed receiving the letter and still waiting for detailed instructions from the Bishop. He says that they hope having their 1st committee meeting shortly after Easter festive.

Despite  waiting for details from the Bishop, Rujumba says that one of the reasons why the Diocesan Board of Trustees thought it prudent to shifting the seminary is because of the bigger space in Kyenjojo hence opportunities for expansion and erect income generating projects.

When contacted,  the current rector St. Mary’s Seminary Rev. Fr. Emanuel Byaruhanga Kakaaga, said that they have received the letter and waiting for details.

Our reporter contacted Bishop Robert Muhiirwa who assented writing the letter and said detailed information will be given at an appropriate time.
