It was a day of celebration, reflection, and inspiration at St. Mary’s Seminary Virika as the institution marked its annual feast day over the weekend on March 29 this year. Traditionally observed on March 25th, this year’s celebrations were moved to today since the date fell on a weekday.
The highlight of the day was a Eucharistic Mass led by Rev. Fr. Raphael Balinandi Kambale, one of the seminary’s first-ever priestly alumni.
Love one another
In his homily, Fr. Balinandi emphasized the power of love, urging everyone to shun hate speech and embrace selflessness. Quoting St. Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 13, he reminded the congregation that good deeds or words without love, is all in vain.
He also stressed that a good name is more valuable than great wealth, encouraging young seminarians to uphold integrity and kindness in their daily lives.
The seminary’s rector, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Byaruhanga Kakaaga, explained why Fr. Balinandi was chosen to lead the celebrations. He noted that the seminary wanted to inspire young seminarians through his faith journey while also honoring his 50th anniversary in the priesthood, which he celebrated last December.
As a token of appreciation for his unwavering dedication to the seminary, Fr. Balinandi was presented with a special accolade.
St. Mary’s Seminary Virika continues to uphold its legacy of nurturing faith and discipline among young men called to the priesthood, reminding them that the path to greatness is paved with love, humility, and unwavering commitment.
