St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School in Kamwenge has emerged as the champion of this year’s “Try Prayer, It Works” regional contest, a religious performing arts competition annually organized by Holy Cross Family Ministries.
According to the adjudicators’ report released yesterday at Holy Cross Family Ministries National Office in Kitumba, Fort Portal City, St. Thomas Aquinas outperformed 20 other schools that submitted their Try Prayer assignments. The second and third places went to St. Maria Goretti Girls Secondary School and St. Michael Kahunge, respectively.
Rev. Fr. John Baptist Nsubuga, Director of HCFM East Africa, explained that the participating schools were required to recite poems, write essays, and create art (drawings) under the theme “One Eucharist Family.” The contest aimed to enhance students’ understanding of the Catholic faith.
Fr. Nsubuga expressed gratitude to Bishop Robert Muhiirwa for dedicating his time to the award ceremony, which began with Holy Mass. He highlighted that the contest’s purpose is to deepen students’ faith and strengthen their relationship with God.
Meanwhile, at least eight schools attended the ceremony at the Kitumba HCFM offices, including St. Leo’s College Kyegobe, Kibiito Secondary School, Kyebambe Girls, Kitumba Secondary School, Maria Goretti Girls Secondary School, St. Thomas Aquinas, and St. Michael.
Rev. Fr. Gabriel Lulu, Director of HCFM Fort Portal, encouraged all schools to participate in such competitions to instill faith in students.
