The Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert K. Muhiirwa Akiiki, Bishop of Fort Portal Catholic Diocese, has urged Christians to remain faithful to the three pillars of Lent: Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving.
During the Ash Wednesday Holy Mass held at Bishop McCauley Hall Virika Hill in Fort Portal City today, the Bishop emphasized the importance of these pillars and encouraged Christians to walk the Lenten season alongside Jesus Christ.
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Titus Winyi, the parish priest of Virika, highlighted the significance of self-reflection during Lent. He urged Christians to take this opportunity to strengthen their relationship with God and to avoid being consumed by worldly pleasures.
The Mass, attended by Christians from various areas, involved the marking of foreheads with ashes collected from last year’s palms. This act serves as a reminder that humans originated from dust and will ultimately return to it.
While Ash Wednesday and Lent are commonly associated with Catholic observances, it is essential to recognize the increasing participation of Protestants in Lenten disciplines.
Lent, which spans six weeks before Easter, is a period of prayer, fasting, and acts of charity according to Christian tradition
