Police in Kamwenge are investigating an attack that occurred around 2:00 PM in the wee hours of today December 19, 2023, in Kyitehurizi village, resulting into the tragic loss of ten lives.
The deceased include Banyenzaki Margaret, 60, an individual only identified as Tugume, 25, and eight others who are yet to be identified.
Preliminary findings by police according to the Rwenzori West spokesperson Vincent Twesige, indicate that ten armed assailants with SMG rifles attacked and fatally butchered ten people in Kyitehurizi trading center, near Kibale National Park.
Following the attack, the suspected group, ADF, broke into the store of another local Baguma Richard, 35, and looted 300 kilograms of beans, a sack of Irish potatoes, three trays of eggs, and 50 kilograms of maize. They also set ablaze a motorcycle with the registration number UFC 851T.
Reportedly The ADF then headed towards Kibale National Park. Upon receiving this information, security officers promptly responded, deploying canine units and UPDF personnel to the scene.
Currently, a search led by Joint Security agencies is underway. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses. The police are committed to resolving the situation and ensuring the safety of the affected community.
